Biographical Info:
I was born and raised in Clements Minnesota and graduated from Redwood Falls High School. I attended the University of Minnesota where I earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural business administration. I am also a graduate of the Blandin Community Leadership Program. I am married to Barb (48 years) and we have two children and 2 grandchildren. I am a retired business owner, insurance agent and former county commissioner. I owned and operated Dahms Insurance Agency for 25 years. I turned my appreciation for my community into a lifelong dedication of service and volunteerism. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to serve on many boards and commissions within my community. This experience has been very helpful as I serve my constituents in the Senate. I was elected to the Minnesota Senate in 2010 and have served on several committees, the most recent being: Commerce and Consumer Protection (chair), Ag Finance and Policy Committee (vice chair), Finance and Housing Policy; and Capital Investment (Bonding) Committee. I have also served on the Republican Senate Leadership Team as an Assistant Minority Leader and as an Assistant Majority Leader. I have also served as a Senate co-whip. Statement:
I want to make sure our children, grandchildren and future generations have the same or greater opportunities that my generation was so fortunate to have. I feel that in order to do this we have to protect and provide for the expansion of jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities. We need to provide equity in student funding so we can provide a quality education for all of our children, lower costs and improve choices in health care, provide agricultural policy solutions that work for our farmers, tax relief for families, farmers, and businesses by reforming our burdensome tax structure and public safety policies that allow for safe streets and communities. I feel my experience in business, community involvement, and as a County Commissioner and Senator give me a good base for working on these and other issues. I have truly appreciated the support and the opportunity that I have been given to represent the district as your Senator at the State Capitol.
