Biographical Info:
Julie Tarnowski Sandstede is a life-long Hibbing resident. She is married to her husband Evan and together they have three children, Jacob, Grace and Jonathon, and a grand daughter, Adelaide. She earned her Bachelors Degree in Classroom and Instrumental Music Education from St. Scholastica and her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Mary’s University. She is an elementary school music teacher of twenty nine years and has taught area students to love music. She conducts the Hibbing City Band, directs the Chisholm Baptist Church Choir, and has served as the Primary Department Head and teacher for their Sunday School program. She is also a volunteer firefighter with the Colvin Fire Department. Julie has served in the Minnesota House of Representatives for six years and fights for good-paying jobs for her community, seniors, veterans, families, and students. She is know for for her common sense leadership and ability to work across the aisle.
I am seeking re-election because I hope to continue to serve and represent the residents of my district and continue to work for needed improvements within my district and statewide (the work is not done). My initial step into this race three terms ago was in response to what I felt I was being called to do and I have not been lead to believe that is no longer applicable.

Do you oppose public school policies that promote transgender ideology, such as comprehensive sex education? ?* As a public school teacher, I believe there is a need for BASIC sex education as many parents are not talking to their kids, however I do not believe it should promote transgender ideologies. I believe parents should have an “opt out” option for their student. There are many studies that indicate that sexual identity and maturity doesn’t happen until an individual is in their 20’s or beyond.
